Babette's Feast
(full movie on YouTube) is a 1987 pearl. It reveals how a single evening transforms an entire community. Its genius lies in showing how careful preparation and service excellence create lasting impact because, as we know, food is never "just food". Each viewing uncovers new planning insights, particularly useful when working with limited resources. What caught our attention? The subtle art of knowing how to share something truly special, and when.
Nyad
(on Netflix) is a must. In 2013, at the age of 64 years old, Diane Nyad broke a world record swimming from Cuba to Florida in 53 hours non-stop. This movie brings essential lessons about persistence, friendship, teamwork and grit. We really loved this one as it resonates with everyone, including event organisers facing complex timelines or ambitious projects that can sometimes take years of preparation. Diana Nyad's journey offers practical wisdom about preparation and determination, which is especially valuable when managing expectations (and impatience).
Ocean's 11
(on Prime Video). Remember that feeling when an event runs smoothly, each person anticipating the next step, sharing knowing glances as everything falls perfectly into place? That's what makes our profession special. Beyond the heist plot lies a story about professional excellence and the joy of collective achievement. And the actor's cast is crazy. An old but gold action movie.
...2 (Books)
Essentialism by Greg McKeown ( Waterstones) addresses the constant prioritisation challenge. Its approach to doing less but better proves invaluable when managing multiple events with limited resources. Essential reading for small teams handling big responsibilities.
Atomic Habits by James Clear (Daunt Books) provides a framework for excellence through small improvements. Its principles help refine planning processes, whether you're organising team meetings or large-scale conferences. Perfect for building efficient workflows that last.
...1 (Podcast)
POLITICO's EU Confidential (Spotify or Apple Podcasts) offers essential context for anyone working with European institutions. Understanding EU policy mechanisms helps create more relevant, impactful events. Consider it your weekly briefing on institutional dynamics and the ideal Monday morning companion.
Conclusion
We hope these resources bring you as much value as they've brought us over the years. Each one offers something special for event professionals, whether you're planning your first sustainability workshop or coordinating a complex EU conference.
